PAST EVENTS
I delivered a keynote at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) 11th Annual Biomedical Career Fair on Friday, April 25th at Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
My topic was, “Bliss-Success: Where Do You Find Yourself?” This topic is based on the steering committee’s interest in addressing the question, “What should I do with my life and how do I get there?”

What Attendees Say…
“I attended the career fair last Friday at the EPA, and just wanted to drop a note of thanks. I thought your keynote was inspiring and thought provoking. I’m fairly happy with my career path so far, but you talk did prompt me for a little self-evaluation of goals and personal happiness. Thanks so much for accepting the invitation…we all are very appreciative that you came. You don’t need me to tell you that you are an outstanding public speaker, but you are. I get a lot of compliments about my own presentations and have been told by a lot of people that I am a good public speaker as well, but you are truly excellent at it. The matzo ball story was absolutely priceless! I will remember your talk for a long time. Well done!”
“Dear Dr. Chin, At the NIEHS Career Fair past Friday, I had the pleasure of attending your keynote address and the first “interviewing skills” session. Normally being a person not easily impressed - with you, I was. Your holistic attitude, your self confidence and honesty, as well as your continuing “adaptation” to life’s challenges were highlights for me. Quickly browsing through some of your web content made me “recognize myself” in many of the situations described. Presently, I am trying to acquire a Ph.D. to make a transition from a life of clinical activities to hopefully consulting or industry, so also here I saw a parallel to your process of leaving a “secure” environment for an alternative career. Thank you so much for your inspiring presentations! I wish you all the best for your private and professional endeavors.”
“Your keynote speech was excellent and everyone I talked to was really affected by it. I was actually shocked at how surprised people seemed to be with things you talked about. Some people were talking about it being a wake-up call. I guess I’ve been awake for awhile now, but still haven’t headed out the door yet!”
“Thank you so very much for sharing your time with me today! Your presentation was very helpful and encouraging to everyone trying to find where they belong. The workshop this afternoon was also very helpful. I think everyone there was comfortable talking with you and sharing their concerns.”
“Thank you for your motivating pieces of advice for tailoring my future happy such as empra opera, volunteering in a hotel etc. Those are really encouraging!! I deliver my thankful heart to you. Also, if you have any chance, could you let me know the web page that I can see your presentation slides that you presented today? Thank you for your kindness Jane. ”
“Dear Jane, How can I possibly thank you for everything that you have done for me and the 2008 NIEHS Career Fair? Your keynote address was simply outstanding - your message was inspirational and sincere, and I know that you affected everyone in the audience. Your interviewing skills workshops were also fantastic, giving the fellows invaluable advice that will help them succeed as they compete for positions. I don’t know how to thank you for your personal advice concerning my future. Thank you for being so willing to help - I truly appreciate your generosity. After talking with you, I have a new-found clarity, and with your help I have identified some very clear tasks that I will complete to plan for my future career. I refuse to disappoint myself from now on. I wish you continued success in your career and best wishes for you and your family, and I look forward to following your experiment on whatIlovetodo.com. If there is ever anything that I can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact me.”
“Dear Dr. Chin, I had attended your Keynote Address “Bliss Success: Where Do You Find Yourself” as well as your Session “Interviewing Skills” that you presented at the NIEHS Biomedical Career fair on Friday, April 25th. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your schedule and sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. Although exciting, it is also rather intimidating as a 5th year postdoc fellow about to enter the “real” world. The information you communicated was very beneficial; and your interactive style, PowerPoint presentation, as well as the handout of the resources for interviewing skills made it very easy to grasp both the fundamentals as well as the subtleties. I hope you enjoyed sharing your knowledge with us as much as we enjoyed learning from you.”
